From the Diary of Heather James

February 18, 1771

I have been feeling so much better today. Dr. Mercer told me I should go on a short walk to get some fresh air. I have been helping in the kitchen by grinding herbs with the mortar and pestle. I enjoy listening to the maids talk about interesting news and the well.

Today I woke up with a sour stomach. Doctor Mercer gave me some tea with dried basil and He treated me very well. It is mid-day and I hope this will not go on long.

I got news from my home, and everyone is doing fine, and are all healthy. Sister Katie is now courting a young gentleman, named Robert, And from what I've heard, is very polite and friendly.I am happy for Katie.
Dr. Mercer suggested that I study and rest while in bed.
